United Board For Christian Higher Education in Asia
The United Board endeavours to respond to the diverse challenges and opportunities facing colleagues in higher education in Asia, especially where the needs are great. The organization shares the interests of developing institutions that offer multidisciplinary education and that nurture a spirit of compassion, equity, reconciliation, social responsibility, and mutual respect among religious and cultural traditions.
The approach is ecumenical and inclusive: the primary involvement is with Christian institutions, but the organization also reaches out to other colleges and universities that share a commitment to whole person education. Solidarity with educators at these institutions forms the foundation of the organization's work. Through their insights, needs are identified, and through their creative responses, ways to address them collaboratively are discovered.
Programs and grants support institutions to improve the quality of education. The organization sponsors professional training for faculty, administrators, and trustees, and fosters linkages and networks among Asian institutions of higher education. The current focus is on five program areas: leadership development for higher education; faculty development for enhanced teaching, learning, and research; campus-community partnerships; culture and religion in Asia; and special initiatives.
The organization funds its programs by seeking contributions from individuals, foundations, and alumni of Asian institutions to supplement the income from its endowment.
