
Although a part of the collection is as old as the college itself, the library took its shape since the early 1960’s.The library currently comprises the Central Library, Post Graduate and B.Ed. Library, and departmental seminar libraries. Departments of English, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology as well as Bengali, Hindi, Journalism, Human Rights, Mathematics, and Sociology have seminar libraries.
The Central Library holds material covering a wide range of subjects, larger part of which is in English. The library holdings mainly cover the disciplines of Social Sciences, and Humanities. Subjects covered include English literature and language, History, Geography, Education, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism, Film Studies, Human Rights, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Applications. Also, there are old and interesting collections of Biography, Philosophy, Religion and Art. There is an extensive collection of Bengali and Hindi language and literature and translation works of regional Indian languages.
The Central Library fosters learning and research through it’s extensive collection of over 54,800 books in the Central Library, alongside 32 print journals, 601 CDs and DVDs, 245 e-books, 1458 text books in the Book Bank; 111 books in the Special Collection; e-resources (6000+ ejournals and 97000+ ebooks) from NLIST-INFLIBNET and 6 newspapers.
There are 15595 books in the B.Ed section and 300 books in the Post Graduation section along with respective journals catering to the varied needs of the Post graduation departments. Post Graduation section is comparatively new. Students of B.Ed and Post Graduation departments avail facilities from both libraries.
The Central Library has received many grants over the years from Central Government, State Government and individual enterprises which has helped in the development of collection of books, e-books and also infrastructure. The Library has immensely benefitted from grants which include UGC-CPE grant, UGC XIIth Plan, Incentive scheme, RUSA, and P.C. Chandra Gyandhara Prakalpo.
