The Political Science Society, established in 2005, is dedicated to executing all the activities of the Department of Political Science, with the aim of enhancing student participation, engagement, and learning through both academic and non-academic endeavors. The Society plays a key role in organizing departmental seminars, special talks, and student meets that focus on various social, political, and global themes, thereby helping to develop a comprehensive understanding of political dynamics beyond classroom teaching.
As per established norms, the Society functions under the guidance of Staff Advisor Sayoni Choudhuri Patra, Head of the Department of Political Science. The Society members also maintain a fortnightly Wall Journal, which provides students with a thorough overview of both domestic and international current affairs. The Society is renowned for organizing the event 'Abki Baar Yuvaon ki Sarkaar,' showcasing students' talents in campaigning and propagandizing by forming hypothetical parties complete with their own logos.
Additionally, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, the Society celebrates Constitution Day for the entire college. The Society's flagship event during the annual inter-college fest, 'Samagam,' is 'Nukkad Natak' or Street Play, which offers a platform for students to depict a range of socio-political issues through theatrical performances.
Moreover, the Department of Political Science, in collaboration with the Political Science Society, has been organizing student seminars for many years. In 2019, through a democratic process, the annual student seminar was christened 'Dialego.' This event sees participation from students of the Department of Political Science from various colleges in the city as well as from other departments of Loreto College. On August 5, 2024, the Society, in collaboration with the IQAC, the Department of Political Science, the National Service Scheme Unit, the Department of History, and the History Society, organized an Independence Day program to commemorate the 78th year of Independence through a special event: "Matribhoomi: Rights of Women and the Republic," which received widespread appreciation.
The Society plays an instrumental role in shaping informed and thoughtful citizens who are well-equipped to navigate and contribute to the ever-evolving political landscape.
