Oktofest 2024: "She Leads October"
On October 3, 2024, Loreto College, Kolkata hosted Oktofest, a vibrant cultural programme celebrating womanhood and festivity, organised by the Cine Society in collaboration with the Media Society and the Eastern Cultural Society. The event featured an interdepartmental competition divided into three segments: music, dance, and on-the-spot report writing. The musical and report-writing segments consisted of one round each and the dance segment consisted of three rounds, the last round being an impromptu round. The event showcased collaboration and teamwork among undergraduate students from all eight departments.
The event commenced with a Lighting of the Lamp ceremony led by the Teacher-in-Charge, Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala, and the esteemed judges. The musical performances were evaluated by Ms. Labonya Chaudhuri and Ms. Damayanti Dubey, while the dance segment was judged by Ms. Priyanka Roy and Ms. Dishari Mukherjee. The report writing was assessed by Mr. Sujoy Dhar and Mr. Anindya Sinha Chaudhuri. The participants enthralled the audience with captivating vocals and instrumental skills in the musical segment, while the dance performances celebrated diverse festivities and the empowerment of women, which left the audience in awe. The reports beautifully described the performances and the immense power that women hold.
The event concluded with the declaration of the results of the competition. The Department of History and Geography as a team triumphed in the musical segment. Team A, comprising the Departments of English, Geography, History, and Political Science, won in the dance segment. Atreyee Banerjee of the Department of History won the report-writing segment. The participants together highlighted the power of collaboration and creativity. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the programme.
