NSS Annual Special Camp 2024-25
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Loreto College, Kolkata successfully conducted the Annual Special Camp from November 14 to November 21, 2024 at Boinchtala village. Over 90 NSS volunteers participated in a range of activities that catered to children as well as adults.
The Special Camp began with a Children's Day celebration at Boinchtola Primary School, featuring fun interactions, indoor and outdoor games, and storytelling sessions. The programme of the second day was centred around teaching art and craft and origami to the children. On the third, fourth, and fifth days, the volunteers imparted basic spoken English lessons and offered self-defence training to the children and adult women of the village.
On the sixth day of the Special Camp, Dr. Rajyasri Ghosh, Associate Professor of the Department of Botany, Scottish Church College was invited to conduct a workshop on the use of herbs and plants in our daily lives. The workshop was attended by the women of the village, who actively engaged with the resource person on subjects such as the growth and proper usage of medicinal plants and herbs and the best pre-cooking and cooking procedures to preserve the maximum nutritional value of natural ingredients.
The final day of the Special Camp featured a workshop on mushroom cultivation conducted by Dr. Nilanjan Chakraborty, Assistant Professor of the Department of Botany, Scottish Church College. The women of the village learned about the health benefits of mushrooms, the process of mushroom farming, and the financial benefits of starting a small business centred around mushroom products. They were warmly receptive to these new ideas and interested in the potential of the proposed business venture.
The NSS volunteers of Loreto College worked tirelessly to organise and manage the various activities and ensure the success of the Special Camp. Their exceptional teamwork, enthusiasm, and commitment made the camp a meaningful experience for all, promoting social welfare and contributing to the overall well-being of the area.
