National Pollution Prevention Day
National Pollution Prevention Day was commemorated on December 2, 2024, by the Department of Economics in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Loreto College, Kolkata. The event highlighted the importance of pollution prevention in promoting sustainability in the economic and political landscape.
An illuminating talk was organised, with Mr. Shivram Mukherjee, an illustrious mechanical engineer with over fourteen years of experience in the field of ESG and greenhouse gas accounting, and currently the manager of Climate Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction Team at PWC Pvt. Ltd., serving as the esteemed resource person. His presentation, titled "Supporting Sustainable Development through ESG and Carbon Markets," focused on carbon markets, stakeholder capitalism, and the greater onus on developed countries to transform the present environmental landscape. Mr. Mukherjee also emphasised the role of CBDR, carbon crediting mechanisms, and renewable energy setups in mitigating the problem of environmental degradation and the onset of a global ecological crisis.
This enriching initiative sensitised the students on the looming problem of pollution and encouraged them to develop a strong sense of responsibility and play a pivotal role in preventing pollution.
