Historia 2024
The Department of History in collaboration with the History Society of Loreto College, Kolkata organised their annual departmental fest, Historia, on November 28, 2024. The theme of this year's inter-college student’s meet was "Cuisine and the Colony." The event featured two segments: paper presentations and a debate.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with an exceptional speech by the keynote speaker, Dr. Utsa Ray of Jadavpur University. The first business session of paper presentations was moderated and judged by Dr. Ranjini Guha, Associate Professor of Gour Mohan Sachin Mandal Mahavidyalaya. The event was also livestreamed, allowing researcher Leanne Miranda from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand to join this session. Snigdha Banerjee (Semester V, Department of History) of Loreto College bagged the first prize in the first segment, while Aive Chakraborty of Presidency University was placed second.
The second part of the event, the debate, consisted of six teams and was judged by Mr. Ishan Mukerji, Ms. Natasha Aziz, and Ms. Tania Bharadwaj. The debate was moderated by Mr. Pradeep Gooptu. The motion of the debate was "Food habits are no longer a marker of identity today." Loreto College won the Best Team Award. Sampoorna Sen (Semester V, Department of Psychology) of Loreto College secured the Best Speaker Award for the motion, while Samriddha Nandi from Presidency University was awarded the Best Speaker Award against the motion. It was an eventful day for all the students of the Department of History.
