Field visit to People Power India

The Semester VI students of the Department of Psychology, Loreto College, Kolkata embarked on a field visit to People Power India, a prominent human resources and management consultancy firm situated in Park Circus. Led by CEO and Principal Consultant, Mr. Sandeep Mukherjee, the visit spanned two insightful days on March 21 and 22, 2024.

During their visit, students engaged directly with Mr. Mukherjee, benefiting immensely from his wealth of experience in human resource management (HRM) and organisational development. His practical insights shed light on the workings of these domains, offering invaluable guidance to aspiring professionals. Through the visit, the students were also able to identify their own strengths and inclinations towards organisational behaviour (OB).

The interactive sessions provided a platform for students to delve into various OB-related topics, such as how HRM differs from personnel management, the role of organisational culture in corporate settings, and the significance of HRD and HRM in modern businesses. The discussion on how HR endeavours to cultivate and sustain a workforce that significantly contributes to organisational success was of particular interest.

The students also had the opportunity to examine tangible examples of HR paperwork, including job design forms, psychological assessment materials, and employee handbooks. These supplemented their theoretical knowledge and facilitated a deeper understanding of HR processes and procedures. The students also heard Mr. Mukherjee’s first-hand accounts of how People Power India carries out its day-to-day workings, and the unique challenges it faces as a consultancy firm for human resource management. He laid to rest many doubts that the students had about the corporate world and helped encourage them to pursue this field.

The field trip effectively bridged the gap between classroom theories and real-world scenarios, enabling students to amalgamate theoretical concepts with practical applications. This immersive experience left a lasting impression, significantly deepening their appreciation for the multifaceted realm of human resource management. As a result, many students found themselves newly invigorated and captivated by the intricacies of this dynamic field, which sparked their enthusiasm for pursuing further exploration and involvement in HR-related endeavours.
