Bangla Bhasha Dibosh or International Mother Language Day at Shri Shikshayatan College
On March 16 and 17, 2023, the second- and third-year students of Loreto College participated in an inter-college competition organised by the Bengali Department of Shri Shikshayatan College to celebrate Bhasha Dibosh or International Mother Language Day. The programme featured an array of multidimensional activities such as creative writing, photography, extempore, debate, poster making, and solo singing events.
Shrestha Paul (English Department), Debolina Gayen (Political Science Department), and Sagarika Ganguly (History Department) of Semester 6 participated in the photography competition, the theme of which was ‘Aalo’ or ‘Light.’ Debolina Gayen was awarded the second position for her pictorial representation of the theme. Somoshree Palit (English Department) and Cresida Chatterjee (History Department) of Semester 6 and Valentina Mondal (Political Science Department) of Semester 4 participated in the creative writing event. Cresida Chatterjee also took part in the debate and extempore events.
Priyakshi Sen (History Department) of Semester 4 and Ishanee Chatterjee (Education Department) of Semester 6 took part in the solo singing event, where only Bengali songs were to be performed. Ishanee Chatterjee was awarded the second position for performing a Rabindra Sangeet as her solo singing piece. In the creative writing, extempore, debate, and singing events, it was mandatory for the presentations to be in Bengali as a tribute to the richness and heritage of the language. The students were elated at the opportunity to be involved in such a vibrant celebration of a day that is indelibly etched in the history of Bengal.
