Kalakriti 2022

Kalakriti is the much-awaited and coveted annual programme organized by the Psychology Society of Loreto College. The Society successfully conducted the 12th year of Kalakriti on November 22, 2022. Kalakriti is a tradition that the Psychology Society is proud to continue and a legacy it wishes to uphold.

Every year invitations are extended to institutions and schools for specially-abled children. This year students of Mentaid, Manovikas Kendra, Noble Mission of South Calcutta, Reach and Akshar participated in the event. .

The cheerful performances and the contagious excitement of the special children made up for the two years that were spent in the pandemic with the event hosted online. The children took part in various onstage and offstage events such as - Paint the Moon, Paper Towns, Feel the Beat, Thespian and Sound of Music.

Participants in Paint the Moon had to paint mud plates. They were allowed complete creative freedom to produce a riot of colours, which they actually did. For Paper Towns, the participants were given colourful pieces of paper to create their own world. Participants made lovely shapes and structures out of origami, a Japanese art form.

Thespian, Sound of Music, and Feel the Beat were among the performances that took place on stage. For Thespian, the participants came dressed as their favorite characters and famous people and expertly impersonated them. The performers for Sound of Music left the audience in awe of and spellbound by their extraordinary vocal and instrumental abilities. After a brief intermission, Feel the Beat, the day's final event, was held. In this event, the participants danced energetically in rhythm with the music, leaving the audience mesmerized.

Overall, the event was a great success. Compassion, understanding, tenacity, and the capacity to break free from one's own self-imposed limitations and those imposed by society were just a few of the many special lessons one learnt from the children with special abilities. When one adopts their qualities in order to escape from society's constraints they emerge more radiant than the Sun!
