The Lost Glory of Vade Mecum

The Department of B.Ed. organized a special lecture by Dr. Sanghita Sanyal on The Lost Glory of Vade Mecum on September 24, 2022 in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell and in collaboration with Patna Women's College, Patna, St. Ann's College of Education, Secunderabad, Mt. Carmel College of Teacher Education for Women, Kottayam and Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi.

The lecture began with an elucidation on the gradual degradation of the habit of using reference compendium in the fast-facing world of the 21st century where technology has overpowered the minds of the young generation who are inclined to online resources to receive quick knowledge. Dr. Sanyal focused on the diversified collection of Vade Mecum like dictionaries, biographies, bibliographies, etc which has lost its glory. During the seminar, the teachers and the students were exposed to a wide array of knowledge and skill, as Vade Mecum equip us. Her remarkable presentation showed how reference books empower us, and capacitates us with specific hands-on techniques to grasp skills. The discussion was followed by exquisitely highlighting specific terms like Hyperlink, Heutagogy, and Digigogy to enlighten us with the greatness and richness of Vade Mecum, especially for teachers, which helps them to find comprehensive and profound knowledge, supplements their classroom learning, and also facilitates pupil's self-study. The solution is very subjective as to how teachers can intensify the reference compendium to be aware of various methods and possibilities of higher knowledge. The discussion left a lasting impact on the idea of reviving the lost glory of Vade Mecum as the future will be its ultimate witness.
