Special Lecture: Department of Education
Gender and The Challenges of Higher Education by Dr. Mary. E. John
The Department of Education organized a Special Lecture on’ Gender and The Challenges of Higher Education’ in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Loreto College, on February 10, 2021 from 4.30 p.m. onwards. Gender disparity in education is evident across the Indian Diaspora. The concern for girl’s education has led to an expansion of access at the primary level, however; there is a lacuna of girls reaching secondary or higher education owing to socio – cultural and economic reasons. There is a need to develop gender –specific pedagogy and provide flexibility in the system of education, in which women could fulfill their aspirations, overcoming their domestic obligations and prepare them to face a world of opportunities and challenges. Education of girls is imperative to attain social justice accelerating social transformation.
The Resource Person for the Special Lecture was Dr. Mary. E. John, Director, Center for Womens’ Development Studies, New Delhi. The lecture enabled the participants to understand why higher education is imperative for women’s establishment of identity and helps realizing their potentials to the maximum and need to remove gender bias. The lecture was attended by and received active participation of students from the Departments of Education and B.Ed as well as the faculty members.
