National Webinar on Data Journalism & Data Analytics Using Python

Department of Journalism & Mass Communication and Department of Mathematics, Loreto College organized a National Webinar on Data Journalism & Data Analytics Using Python on 28.07.2020. The webinar commenced at 11 a.m. with the inaugural address by the Principal, Sr.Dr. Christine Coutinho. After her inaugural address Dr. Uma Shankar Pandey, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Surendranath College for Women, Kolkata deliberated on data journalism. He discussed the nuances of the present digital ecosystem, the importance of data journalism in present times, the added value it brings to the readers, how to get data, important data sources and importing data. It was an engaging and informative presentation which helped the participants to get an introductory insight into nuances of data journalism. Professor Paras Nath Singh, Professor (CSE), CMRIT, Bangalore and President, ICT-CS Section, Indian Science Congress 2020-21 delivered his talk on data analytics using python. He discussed about the importance of finding data, cleaning data, processing data, getting the story out of the data and visualizing data. He also discussed about linear regression for big-data analytics and machine learning and analyzed the data set for COVID-19 in India using Pandas, a python package which provides fast, flexible and expressive data structures. It was an enriching experience for the participants as they were introduced to interesting aspects of data analytics.
