An Interactive Session on The Art of Copywriting and the role of Storytelling in Branding, Advertising and Social Media

The Film Studies Department of Loreto College organized an interactive session for IDC and Minor students of the department from Semester 2 on 2nd April, 2025. The session dealt with the copywriting industry and the role of storytelling in the fields of branding, social media and advertising. The session was conducted by Ms. Joyeeta Majumdar, an experienced professional and alumni of the college.

The first half of the session was dedicated to Ms. Majumdar sharing her experience working in diverse creative roles that ranged from copywriting, social media promotion to writing for screen. She gave insight about the ways in which a college student could engage in networking and internships. She asked a number of students about their career aspirations and advised them accordingly.

The topic of writing for screen was the highlight of the session. Ms. Majumdar discussed how writing for screen differs on the basis of target audience. She talked about the goals of screen writing through efficient examples from the film industry. A short impromptu debate about a polarizing film was held amongst four student volunteers to show the goal of 'dividing'.

Further, Ms Majumdar divided the entire audience into groups and guided them to do 'target audience research' about a hypothetical skill they might want to sell. Hence, the importance of target audience research in various creative fields was demonstrated.

Ms Majumdar ended the interaction by making the students do a mind-mapping session about their career interests. She shared invaluable advice about how to approach hiring professionals and the ways in which one could build an impressive resume through relevant skills and courses.

The interactive session was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. The knowledge and experience shared about various creative fields was incredibly useful for the students.
