Celebration of National Voters' Day 2025
The Department of Political Science, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the Political Science Society, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, organised an inter-college essay writing competition to commemorate National Voters' Day 2025 on January 25, 2025. Invitations for participation were extended to all MoU colleges, encouraging students to engage in discussions on electoral reforms.
The competition was conducted in an online mode, with participants required to submit their essays between January 25 and January 31, 2025 via the official email of the Political Science Society. The topic for the competition-"One Nation, One Election: Can it Work for India?"-aimed to stimulate critical analysis and debate on the feasibility of simultaneous elections in the country. Participants were provided with specific formatting guidelines to ensure uniformity in submissions.
After a thorough evaluation process, the winners of the competition were announced. Munazzah Shamim, a third-year student from the Department of English at Loreto College, Kolkata, secured the first position. Akshiti Prasad, a third-year student from the Department of Political Science at Loreto College, Kolkata, secured the second position, while Tanzila Khan, a first-year student from Jyoti Nivas College, secured the third position.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various colleges, making the event a resounding success in fostering electoral awareness and academic engagement.
