Session on Teach for India Fellowship Programme
The Placement Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with Teach For India, hosted a session titled “Teach For India: Transforming Education for a Brighter Future” on February 28, 2025. The session was facilitated by Shivika Seksaria, Senior Manager of Branding, Partnerships & Sourcing at Teach For India. It was attended by postgraduate students from the Department of English at Loreto College. The primary objective of the session was to introduce the Teach For India Fellowship, its impact on education, and the career opportunities available for fellows. It also provided insights into the application and selection process.
The Teach For India Fellowship is a two-year, full-time programme designed to place fellows in schools where they can drive meaningful educational change. The programme follows the T.E.A.C.H. model, which emphasises teaching for two years, empowering underserved communities, working in government or low-fee schools, teaching in English-medium classrooms, and providing holistic education. Fellows are offered numerous career-building opportunities, including internships, mentorship programmes, a social entrepreneurship track (the Be The Change Project), and various learning tracks in areas such as policy and school leadership.
Compensation for fellows includes competitive salaries, health insurance, and reimbursement for classroom supplies. The programme has a lasting impact, with more than 70% of alumni continuing to work in the education sector or social-impact initiatives. Furthermore, Teach For India is part of a global network of over 62 countries, providing fellows with international exposure and career opportunities.
The application and selection process consists of two stages: the first stage involves completing an application form, while the second stage includes an English assessment test. To assist prospective applicants, a Zoom session was scheduled later that day at 7 PM to address any queries regarding the application and assessment process.
Key takeaways from the session included the programme's potential to offer opportunities for teaching and leading social change in India's education system, along with providing hands-on leadership experience and career growth. Interested candidates were encouraged to attend the Zoom session for further guidance and to complete their application forms while preparing for the assessment test by March 9, 2025.
In conclusion, the session effectively introduced the mission, impact, and career pathways associated with the Teach For India Fellowship, highlighting it as a transformative journey for those passionate about education, leadership, and social justice.
