Reading Family Photographs: Workshop by Professor Geraldine Forbes

On February 28, 2025, the Department of History at Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with the History Society, organised a workshop on "Reading Family Photographs." Professor Geraldine Forbes, an educator as well as an eminent scholar of Gender Studies, was invited to conduct the workshop, the aim of which was to explore the history of a family by analysing their family photographs.

The students were required to share their family photographs prior to the workshop. Dr. Forbes wonderfully explained how students could recreate the history of their family by analysing the photographs and historical contexts related to the relevant periods. The students interacted with Dr. Forbes and the faculty members of the Department of History, discussing their specific family histories. The workshop proved to be a valuable learning experience that offered the students fresh perspectives on historical understanding and research.
