Workshop on 'Data Science & Gen AI'
Computer Department of Loreto College, Kolkata organized a hand-on session on 'Data Science & Generative AI' by Praxis Tech School on 27th February 2025, providing students with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and insights into the field of AI and data analytics. The event was attended by undergraduate, along with B.Ed students. The diverse participation showcased the growing interdisciplinary interest in AI applications across different academic fields. The session was led by Dr.Sourav Saha, the Director of Data Science & Dean Academics at Praxis and his team, who provided a well-structured, engaging, and informative presentation. Their expertise in the field helped students understand the theoretical and practical aspects of AI and data science.
The session was divided into two key segments. First was a presentation on Generative AI and Data Science & Analytics. The resource person explained the role of AI in various real-world applications, such as Netflix recommendation algorithms, automated bank call systems, and fraud detection in financial transactions. The presentation delved into how AI-powered tools are transforming industries, emphasizing their role in predictive analytics, customer engagement, and automation. Students learned about machine learning models, neural networks, and their impact on decision-making processes.
The second segment was a hands-on practical session where students actively worked with AI-based software to analyze and organize IPL data, gaining insights into how AI processes and structures large datasets efficiently. They were introduced to Claude AI, an advanced tool used for generating written content, such as essays, official letters, and creative writing. A special focus was placed on prompt engineering, where students learned to structure prompts effectively to generate coherent and professional content. A live demonstration was conducted, where students collectively generated an application letter to NASA, showcasing how AI can assist in professional communication.
The session concluded with a short Q&A session, allowing students to clarify doubts and discuss AI's potential impact in their respective fields. Many students engaged in discussions about AI’s ethical considerations, job market implications, and further study opportunities in data science. The session provided students with valuable hands-on experience and theoretical insights, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. It emphasized the increasing relevance of Data Science and AI in various sectors, including finance, entertainment, healthcare, and education. The event was highly interactive, informative, and engaging, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills that will benefit them in their academic and professional pursuits.
