Session on Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm and Transformative Education

On 4th March 2025, the Department of B.Ed., Loreto College, organized an insightful session on 'Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm and Transformative Education' from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the final semester B.Ed. students. The session was conducted by Prof. (Dr.) Charlotte Simpson Veigas from St. Xavier's College(Autonomous), Kolkata and is a distinguished academician and a proud alumna of Loreto College.

The session commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of Dr. Veigas by Dr. K. Banerjee, Head of the Department of B.Ed. Dr. Veigas began by providing a brief background on St. Ignatius of Loyola and his spiritual exercises, which laid the foundation for the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP). She explained that IPP is structured around five key components-context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation-and demonstrated how this pedagogical framework can be applied effectively across different subjects and teaching methodologies.

To enrich the learning experience, Dr. Veigas presented three short videos, each illustrating real-life situations where IPP principles could be implemented. Through engaging discussions she encouraged students to analyze these examples critically, fostering deep reflection and meaningful dialogue. She emphasized that IPP is more than just a teaching methodology-it is a transformative approach to education and life, inspiring educators to create learning environments that nurture critical thinking, empathy, and personal growth.
The session concluded with vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to Dr. Veigas for sharing her valuable insights and expertise. As a gesture of appreciation, she was presented with a token of gratitude on behalf of Loreto College.

This interactive and thought-provoking session provided invaluable perspectives on education as a transformative process. The Department of B.Ed. extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Veigas for her time, wisdom, and dedication in making this session both enriching and inspiring for all attendees.
