Industrial Visit to Coca-Cola's DBPL Unit
On March 6, 2025, an industrial visit to Diamond Beverages Private Limited (DBPL), one of the leading bottling partners of the Coca-Cola Company in India, was organised by the Department of Economics, Loreto College, Kolkata. The visit featured a group of 17 students from Semester VI, who were accompanied by two faculty members. This marked a major initiative by the department for promoting experiential learning as well as building up a strong industry-academia synergy in teaching-learning.
The excursion commenced with an introductory session where one of the company representatives briefed the students on Coca-Cola’s history, operations, market strategies, and supply chain management. The students were then taken on a guided tour of the production facility, witnessing firsthand the different stages of beverage manufacturing. From raw material processing to purification, bottling, labeling, and packaging of RGB and PET bottles, each step was explained in detail, giving them a comprehensive practical understanding of the industrial workflow. The managers also provided an overview of the production processes and addressed most of the queries raised by the students.
Through this visit, the students gained practical exposure to industrial operations, complementing their theoretical knowledge of economics, production processes, and market dynamics. They also understood the significance of supply chain logistics and the role of technology and economic factors influencing large-scale manufacturing.
The active participation of the students, the accommodating responses from the factory personnel, and the support provided by the faculty contributed to the success of the visit. The experiential learning left a lasting impression as it highlighted the real-life implications of textual theories.
