TCS CSR Youth Employment Programme
To celebrate National Youth Day 2025, TCS CSR Youth Employment Programme, in collaboration with the Placement Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata, conducted an extempore competition and sessions to equip students with relevant skills and industry insights on January 8, 2025. The event aimed at enhancing the career prospects of students. The session began with a discussion on various career opportunities, contrasting the job prospects in the corporate sector with those in the government sector. The speakers highlighted that while government jobs offer stability, corporate jobs provide more dynamic growth and competitive compensation, depending on the industry and skills.
A key topic of the event was instructional designing, especially in content writing, and its relevance in the rapidly growing EdTech sector. With companies such as Coursera, Byju’s, and various online learning platforms on the rise, the role of instructional design in creating impactful content was underscored as a critical skill.
The discussion then shifted to Human Resources (HR) as the best career path, highlighting its strategic importance in organisational success. HR was discussed not just as a role focused on recruitment but as a key player in shaping company culture and employee development.
The importance of sabbatical leave in maintaining a healthy work-life balance was also emphasised, with TCS advocating for flexible work policies to enhance productivity and employee well-being.
TCS also introduced User Interface Development as a promising career path, emphasising the growing need for data security, identity verification, and digital governance. One of the most significant takeaways of the event was the holistic understanding of the way corporate and academic interviews take place, common questions, and answers relevant to the same.
Following the discussion, an engaging Extempore Competition was held, with topics such as “Globalisation and its Effects on Local Culture” and “India’s Role as a Global Economic Power.” The event concluded with a debate on “ChatGPT: A Curse or a Blessing?” which sparked an insightful exchange of views among participants. Winners of the debate, Shubhangi Basu, Rachel Zohra Gomes, and Somoshree Palit bagged the three ‘Best Speaker Awards.’ Runners up also received prizes.
The sessions were highly engaging and insightful. The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and look forward to more such events.
