Constitution Day 2023

On November 29, 2023, the Department of Political Science at Loreto College, Kolkata organized a programme to observe Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas. This is an annual event that honours the adoption of the Constitution of India on November 26, 1949.

The event commenced with an insightful presentation that delved into the dominant features of the Indian Constitution, tracing its evolution over time. Special attention was given to the Vishaka Guidelines that emphasize the legal and ethical frameworks crucial in governing societal conduct pertaining to sexual harassment. This was followed by a captivating dramatic portrayal of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary masterpiece, The Home and the World (Ghore Baire). The portrayal provided a holistic understanding of both radical and moderate nationalism, offering insights into the complexities of the nation’s ideological journey. The programme concluded with a collective rendition of the National Anthem.

The event was warmly appreciated by the audience and served as a platform for the college community to reflect on the foundational principles embedded in the Constitution and their relevance in contemporary times.
