Monsoon Camp at Tarumitra, Patna



On July 25, 2024, a group of 46 students from Loreto College, Kolkata, accompanied by Ms. Nayanika Saha, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Ms. Tania Mondal, Assistant Professor of Education, embarked on a journey to participate in a Monsoon Camp on invitation from Tarumitra, Patna. The W.E. Nature Society of Loreto College took an initiative to take the students for this camp. They were warmly welcomed by Ms. Devopriya Dutta, Coordinator from Tarumitra.

On Day 1, the camp’s activities began with a visit to St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology. The visit featured a plantation activity and a “meet-and-greet” session with the students of St. Xavier’s College, facilitating an engaging and informative exchange. The afternoon included a tour of Tarumitra, where the group explored the lush environment and a nearby church.

On Day 2, the group visited Patna Women’s College, where a presentation by the students of Loreto College provided an insightful portrayal of the monsoon in West Bengal. It also addressed key environmental issues. The session by Patna Women’s College was marked by interactive presentations, dance, and music and concluded with a quiz. Additional activities included a plantation drive and a visit to the Bihar Museum. After exploring the museum and purchasing souvenirs, the group visited the Ganga Marine Drive.

The final day being World Nature Conservation day, the students presented on topics related to different nature conservation methods, took a nature walk, and were given a demonstration on the use of various medicinal plants. The group returned to Kolkata on July 29.

The trip was an opportunity for the participating students to experience nature in its boundless beauty and diversity. They gained experiential knowledge about the intricacies of various ecosystems, which helped them to cultivate a sense of deep respect and responsibility towards the environment. The trip also helped them to work collectively as a team and to forge new bonds of friendship. The collective spirit and resilience of the participants ensured that the memories of the trip were both enduring and significant.
