International Yoga Day 2023
“Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition which embodies unity of mind, body, and thought.” – These were the words of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in 2014. The National Service Scheme (NSS) Society of Loreto College, Kolkata celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day (June 21, 2023) by conducting a three-fold event with the objectives of sensitization, mobilization, and popularization of Yoga among the youth.
For the first segment, the students were instructed to send pictures of themselves doing different yoga poses along with their friends or family members. The second segment was unfolded on June 21, with 10 NSS volunteers showcasing rejuvenating asanas such as Padahastasana, Chakrasana, and Hanumanasana. Around 60 volunteers who witnessed the event were deeply inspired as they watched their peers perform the asanas with confidence and grace. The last segment consisted of the Yoga Pledge as all the students gathered along with the Principal of Loreto College, Sr. Dr. Christine Coutinho, and vowed to adopt a healthy lifestyle by including Yoga in their daily schedule and encouraging their family and friends to do the same.
