A webinar on 'Rural Entrepreneurship' was organized by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Entrepreneurship (MGNCRE) Cell in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Loreto College, Kolkata, on the February 24, 2022. The resource person for the webinar was Mrs Tuti Sandhya, senior faculty MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India. A total of 66 students of the College participated in this webinar.
In the webinar, the students were familiarized with the concept of rural entrepreneurship and various economic hardships that the rural entrepreneurs face while indicating their probable solutions. The students were introduced to MGNCRE sponsored organizations like Rural Employment Development (RED) Cell and One District – One Product Scheme (ODOP), to encourage them to take up initiatives to choose entrepreneurship as a career and promote local products. Mrs Sandhya also explained how students with this knowledge can help to link the farming sector with the mainstream markets and promote the export of the products produced by the rural entrepreneurs throughout the country by way of pursuing social entrepreneurship. The webinar helped the students to realize the need for the upliftment of the rural poor for sustainable growth of the economy.
