NATIONAL WEBINAR ON
SCOPE AND CHALLENGES OF SOCIAL WORK IN THE WAKE OF CURRENT PANDEMIC

The National Service Scheme Society (NSS) of Loreto College organized an Online National level Webinar on “Scope and Challenges of Social Work in the Wake of Current Pandemic” on 22nd August 2020, 3 p.m. onwards under the guidance of Sister Christine Coutinho. The speakers for the Webinar were - Dr Ashish Kumar Sana, Head of the Department of Commerce, University of Calcutta (also former Programme Officer, NSS, University of Calcutta) and Ms Shilpa Bhaskaran, a former student of Loreto College and, Executive at Cognizant, CSR Outreach PMO. The webinar was highly interactive as both Professor Sana and Ms Bhaskaranshared their valuable experience as to how higher education institutions and corporate houses may take part in social work during a pandemic. Both the speakers cited several examples and insightful ideas of their work strategy to involve the masses. Lastly, Ms Bhaskaran shared various ways of corporate involvement in social work (STEM Learning, community welfare, physician helpline for COVID-19, food line for daily wage earners, online mentoring of children, the supply of cooked food and dry rations and many more activities for the needy ). The resource persons answered all the queries of the participants in the concluding Question and Answer session.

Around 118 participants participated in the webinar including Loreto College students. The guests were provided with e-certificate after the programme. The event was successful for the students as it brought forth various innovative and practical ways to serve the society well.
