Session on Career Advancement Scheme
On June 11, 2024, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Loreto College, Kolkata organised a session on the Career Advancement Scheme for Teachers in West Bengal, which was attended by faculty members due for promotion. Dr. Tushar Kanti Ghara, Joint Director of Public Instruction, Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal was the resource person for the session. Dr. Ghara focused primarily on the UGC Regulations (4th Amendment) of 2016, offering a detailed overview of the process and necessary qualifications for faculty promotion in higher education institutions. His presentation elucidated the levels of service and eligibility criteria for promotion; the calculation of API scores under Categories I (Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation Related Activities), II (Professional Development, Co-Curricular, and Extension Activities), and III (Research and Academic Contributions); and the role of the IQAC in checking eligibility and verifying documentation. Dr. Ghara also touched upon the potential implications of the proposed 2018 Regulations that are yet to be implemented in West Bengal and discussed how the expected guidelines would differ from the existing Regulations. The interactive nature of the session allowed the faculty members to engage directly with Dr. Ghara, seek clarification on specific scenarios, and gain valuable insight into the process of preparing effective promotion applications.
