The Art of Creative Journaling
The Department of Education at Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a thought-provoking session featuring the distinguished author and former Director of the Kutchina Group, Mrs. Nita Bajoria, on April 30, 2024. The event centred around the theme of “The Art of Creative Journaling,” exploring its significance as a tool for self-expression, personal growth, and emotional well-being.
Mrs. Bajoria shared her remarkable journey from a corporate director to a celebrated author, revealing how a simple birthday gift sparked her passion for writing. Her insights into the worlds of science fiction and graphic novels and her upcoming historical text on Kolkata provided a rich backdrop to her discussion on the power of writing. Throughout her presentation, Mrs. Bajoria highlighted the profound impact of writing on personal development and mental wellness. Drawing from her own experiences, she highlighted how journaling serves as a cathartic outlet for processing emotions, quieting the mind, and fostering creativity. By encouraging participants to engage in various forms of journaling, from writing to doodling, she underscored the therapeutic benefits of self-expression and introspection. Her discussion also touched upon the historical importance of journaling, citing renowned figures such as Franz Kafka and Anne Frank, whose diaries have provided invaluable insights into their lives and times. Mrs. Bajoria emphasised the individuality and personal nature of journaling, urging attendees to preserve their writings as a legacy for future generations.
Following the presentation, students were invited to journal their thoughts and emotions in a manner that resonated with them. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students expressing their innermost feelings through sketches, poetry, and prose. This interactive exercise not only encouraged self-expression but also fostered a sense of community and shared learning among the participants. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the transformative power of writing and inspiring students to embrace journaling as a means of self-discovery, emotional healing, and creative exploration.
