Crowning of Our Lady
The All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Society of Loreto College, Kolkata organised an event on May 22, 2024 to celebrate the Crowning of Our Lady. This auspicious event was followed by the Blessing of Loreto College. It was attended by the staff members and students of the college.
The Crowning of Our Lady is a significant tradition in the Catholic Church. It serves as a way to express reverence and devotion to Mother Mary. The crown symbolises her virtues, her role as intercessor between humanity and God, and her heavenly reign. For the AICUF members, this event fostered a sense of community and strengthened their faith.
The event began with a prayer service led by the AICUF members. This service included hymns dedicated to Mother Mary, readings from the Bible, and a reflection on her significance in the Catholic faith. The centrepiece of the event was the crowning ceremony. A beautiful statue of Mother Mary was adorned with a crown, symbolising her role as Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church.
Following the crowning ceremony, the Blessing of the college took place. A prayer service led by Father Michael and Father Christopher invoked blessings upon the college, its faculty, staff, and students, diffusing a spirit of learning, unity, and purpose within the college walls. The event provided a space for prayer and reflection and strengthened the bonds uniting the college community.
