Psychoanalysis Today, in an Era of Quick-Fix

The webinar on ‘Psychoanalysis Today, in an Era of Quick-Fix’ was successfully conducted by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with IQAC, Loreto College, Kolkata. There was enthusiastic participation of the students and faculty members. The webinar also saw participation from esteemed dignitaries of the field like Dr Pushpa Mishra, President Indian Psychoanalytical Society and Dr Sreemoyee Tarafdar, former Head, Department of Psychology, West Bengal State University. Students of the department prepared a PowerPoint presentation introducing Dr Sudhir Kakar. Dr Kakar gave a lucid deliberation on the topic. He elaborated on the history of psychoanalysis, ranging from the eminence of dreamwork in the psychoanalytical approach to neuro analysis, the contemporary development in the field. The talk was of relevance equally to both students and academicians. The 40 minutes session was duly honoured by engaging questions from the audience. In Dr Kakar’s words “aesthetical essence” of psychoanalysis was rightly put across through this webinar and hopefully will encourage our students to engage deeply with the field of study.
