Loreto College Women's Study Society in collaboration with IQAC of Loreto College observed International Women's Day on April 13, 2021 on Google Meet Platform at 4 p.m.
The first part of the programme was the felicitation of Mrs Eva Dasgupta, former (Retd) Head of the Department of Education with the Lakshmi Chatterji Lifetime Memorial Award for her commendable contribution towards her services to society. This award has been instituted by the family members of Late Mrs Lakshmi Chatterji to a Loreto alumnus who stands out for her social services. The society was happy to have conducted this programme. The second part comprised of a talk by Prof Lipi Ghosh, the Centenary Chair Professor - International Relations, Professor and Director of South and South East Asian Studies and Director, Women's Study Research Centre - Calcutta University. She spoke on 'Mothers are the Maker's of Society: The role of the mother in contemporary India'. The discussion dealt in helping the audience to internalize the very essence of what constitutes motherhood and the untiring effort that a mother makes in the family to bring up her children as future citizens and nation builders. Students and staff actively participated in the discussions and realized the significant role played by the mother who in most instances remains unrecognized when compared to the patriarchal role of the father.
