A Special Assembly Commemorating International Women's Day
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the B.Ed. Department organized a Special Assembly on International Women's Day at the Rainbow Home of Loreto Day School, Bowbazar on March 6, 2023.
The program began with the lighting of the candle followed by readings from the holy Gita, Quran, and Bible based on love and respect for humanity. It was followed by a group song, ‘We can Achieve’.
Through poems (Still I Rise by Maya Angelou, Nari Shakti by Aditi Angel, and Nari Divas by Nilanjana Ghosh) in English, Hindi, and Bengali recited by the teacher-trainees the children learned how to strive towards their goals and become independent and empowered.
The role of women in the 21st century was further discussed and five successful women were profiled -- Greta Thunberg, Archana Soreng, Tanya Daga, Priyanshi Somani, and Abhijita Gupta. The special assembly would have been incomplete without mention of the numerous achievements of women in the sphere of sports. Women have started to share space in the male-dominated arena of sports. Anjum Chopra, Mithali Raj, P.T. Usha, Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, and Mirabai Chanu were sports women of conversation.
The Rainbow students thereafter shared in song and dance their experiences of whom they regard as role models, and what makes them happy and keeps them motivated.
The Special Assembly helped create awareness among the students of Rainbow Home of the need to celebrate womanhood. It motivated them that they too can work hard and realize their dreams just as the acclaimed women achievers discussed earlier. The assembly was successful in enabling the students understand the importance of representation and empowerment of women.
