Talk on Research Methodology: Department of History

Ms. Mallika Roy Choudhury had been invited by the Department of History, to speak on Research Methodology on January 7, 2023. Her topic was Research Methods in Social Sciences: Anomaly or Necessity. The talk covered various concepts and issues with research methods. Through the course of the talk the need for rigour in the design, method and methodology of research was emphasized upon with various examples from history. Students were made to appreciate the differences that existed between qualitative and quantitative research methods, apart from being apprised of the varied sources and the importance of their judicious and ethical use in the reconstruction of the past in historical methods. Throughout her talk Ms. Roy Choudhury strongly advocated the necessity of historical methods in Social Sciences along with the need for interdisciplinary approaches to research in the Humanities.
