Academic Orientation by Dept.of Geography
The Department of Geography, Loreto College organized an Academic Orientation for the students of the Department, especially the freshers on December 20, 2021. The orientation program consisted of two segments: the first was a research presentation by Titas Mondal (Semester III, Geography Honours); which was followed by an interactive session with former students of the department. The research presentation by Titas, was on The Naxalbari Effect in Kolkata. The study carried out under the guidance of Mrs. Ganguly, traced the Naxalite Movement in India, assessed its root causes, studied its impact on society and analysed the present scenario.
The panelists for the interactive session were Ms. Susmita Chatterjee (Project Manager and Researcher at SwitchON Foundation), Ms. Surjaa Chakravarti (Ph.D scholar at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi), Ms. Shreya Karmakar (Research Assistant at Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), New Delhi), Ms. Nabeeha Jamil (presently pursuing her Masters in Geoinformatics, from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra). Through the interactive session the former students shed light on the scope and opportunities provided by the Department that helped shape their careers and personalities. The panelists addressed queries while providing suggestions and guidance about specific career options.
