Sociology's History: Why 'Origin' Matters?

On January 19, 2021 (Tuesday) between 3-4pm, the first Sociology Web-talk, organized by the Department of Sociology, and approved by IQAC, Loreto College was held. On this occasion our invited speaker was Mr. Rakesh M. Krishnan, who is an Independent historical sociologist based in Pune. In the past he had worked as a Guest Lecturer in Economics at University of Kerala and as a Visiting Faculty (Sociology) at FLAME University, Pune. The title of his presentation was "Sociology's History: Why 'Origin' Matters?". He illustrated before the students the necessity to study the history of the discipline to understand the present and future trajectories and configurations of Sociology. Through this overview of history of Sociology, he encouraged them to understand why what happens in Sociology. He addressed the Loreto College students who are attending as well as have attended Sociology Elective courses in the last two years. Around 87 students had registered for the Web-talk, out of that we saw a turnout of 70 students on the day of the presentation.
