B.Ed. Information as per NCTE ERC Proforma



Loreto College NAAC accredited A Grade (3rd cycle) started its Teacher Training Department in 1913. The Department of Bachelor of Education offers a two year B.Ed. course. The B.Ed. Degree qualifies teachers for teaching in secondary and higher secondary schools. The Department of B.Ed. was recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) in 1998.

We train competent and dedicated teachers equipped with skills required for effective teaching-learning; help trainees achieve professional standards of work; foster artistic, analytical and creative skills; encourage personal growth and inculcation of moral and spiritual values and develop in them an understanding for pupils. Special features of the Department are:

1. All students of last eleven consecutive batches have received first class marks in Calcutta University B.Ed. Examinations.

2. UGC-Sponsored National Seminars organised.

3. Students are exposed to value education, computer literacy, special activities, guest speakers (National and International), films and cultural programmes.

4. ICT facilities provided to all students with three computer laboratories.

5. Trainees are much in demand in schools and many receive placement immediately after completion of course.

Department: Faculty

Dr. Sr. Christine Coutinho (Principal)

Qualifications: M.Sc.,B.Ed.,M.Ed.,Ph.D.

Sr. Christine Coutinho graduated with Zoology, completed her Masters in Zoology with specialization in Animal Physiology and completed her Ph.D. in Eco Toxicology all from Bombay University. Started a teaching career in 1983, she taught in Ramnarain Ruia College for 3½ years and for 6½ years in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, where undergraduate students worked under her guidance on 4 research projects, research papers of which have been published in journals of international repute.

She completed B.Ed. and M.A. (Education) from IGNOU while in service as Adminstrator and Principal in Loreto Schools. She was also Principal of Loreto College, Darjeeling before joining as Principal of Loreto College, Kolkata in 2009.


Dr. Kaustuva Banerjee

Qualifications: M.Sc , B.Ed., M.Ed.

Kaustuva Banerjee completed her graduation and post-graduation from Presidency (College) University. She has a post graduate diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS from Jadavpur University. She was awarded UGC, NET (Junior Research Fellowship) in Geography in the year 2008. She has completed her Master’s in Education (M.Ed) from University of Calcutta and has also cleared UGC NET in Education. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D in Education at University of Calcutta. Her areas of interest are cartography and remote sensing, social issues, rural health and education. She has presented papers in various state, national and international seminars.
   

Dr. Dinaz R. Jeejeebhoy

Qualifications: B. Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph. D.

Dinaz R. Jeejeebhoy, has been a meritorious student. She was awarded the National Scholarship for achievement at the B.Sc level by the University of Calcutta to pursue M. Sc in Psychology for the batch of 2003 - 2005. She was the recipient of the Debarpita Mukhopadhyay Book Prize for 2003 (for topping B.Sc examination) and the G. Bose Memorial Prize for 2002 (for topping B. Sc Part I examination), awarded by the Department of Psychology, University of Calcutta. She has presented a number of scientific papers at seminars and conferences and was awarded the S. C. Gupta Best Paper Award in 2015 by the Indian Association of Clinical Psychology for her work on Borderline Personality Disorder. She is currently interested in Narrative ideas and practices and its application in clinical settings. She is actively involved with an NGO - Samobeto, that works for the upliftment of women and children. An avid sportswoman, she continues to play basketball at the club level. She also trains Bulbuls - a section of the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement.
   

Dr. Ms. Neeta Dang

Qualifications: M.A., B.Ed., Ph.D.

Dr. Neeta Dang, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education, Loreto College, Kolkata. Her area of specialization is Educational Psychology. She teaches papers like ’Learning’; ’Principles of Education’; ’Curriculum Studies’ ; ’Evaluation in Education’ ; ’Pedagogy Practicals’ and ’Understanding the Self’. She was awarded a Junior Research Scholarship. She has presented papers in national and international seminars mainly centering around the role of teachers and the concept of education.
   

Dr. Mrs. Suparna Ghosh

Qualifications: M.A., B.Ed., Ph.D. M.Ed

Dr. Suparna Ghosh is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and a Teacher Educator in the Department of B.Ed , Loreto College, Kolkata. She was awarded her Ph.D by Jadavpur University on ’Women of Bengal in Sports’. She has published articles in national and international peer reviewed journals and books and presented several papers at various state, national and international seminars. She is also the peer reviewer of International Journals- ’Soccer and Society’ and ’Sport in South Asia’. Her interest areas are sports and gender studies, dwindling communities of Kolkata - the Baghdadi Jews and the Parsees and popular culture - rural culture, customs, traditions. She has completed her M.Ed from the Department of Education, University of Calcutta.


Dr. Ms. Debika Guha

Qualifications: B.A.(1st class 1st) M.A. (Gold Medalist), JRF (Awarded) B.Ed. Ph.D.

Dr. Debika Guha is Associate Professor in the Department of Education and B.Ed. at Loreto College, Kolkata. She served as the Head, Dept. of B.Ed. of Loreto College for 14 years(2008-2022) and serves as a Guest Faculty, Dept. of Education, University of Calcutta. She is a member of Loreto Education Board in India. She has been teaching in Loreto College for the last 25 years. She has served as a resource person at the National Institute of Teacher Training and Research, U.S. Consulate, Kolkata, Indian School Council and in several schools and colleges. She has presented papers in National and International seminars (Tokyo University, Japan and Kunming University, China). She has published 4 books and various papers. She is trained in Western Classical Music(Piano) from Royal School of Music and Trinity College of Music, London. She is an active member of Inner Wheel Club of Greater Calcutta and is involved in various social service work.
   

Ms. Chandrani Sengupta

Qualifications: MCA, PGCACS, CBM

Ms. Chandrani Sengupta is currently Head of the Department of Computer, Loreto College. She is also a Teacher Educator in the B. Ed Department of the College. She has qualified her M.C.A degree with a First class degree with specialization on Database Programming and Database Management Systems. She is the Coordinator of the IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Project, an initiative of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Government of India, to promote IT literacy through Free Open Source Software (FOSS). Ms.Sengupta actively participates in outreach activities by teaching students of Women’s Cell with the objective of providing computer education to empower young women from underprivileged backgrounds. She is also the Staff Advisor of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the College.

Dr. Ms. Ranjita Dawn

Qualifications: M.A., M.Phil.,Ph.D.

Dr. Ranjita Dawn is Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Loreto College, Kolkata. She is currently the Head of the Department of Education. She received her doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and has been working in the area of ’Disability Studies in India’ for the last 17 years. She has been teaching at Loreto College for the last 12 years. She has been actively involved in research work and she attempts to employ research based methodology in her teaching. Some of her other areas of interest are Educational Technology, Action Research and Human Rights issues. She has authored many research papers for both international and national journals and five books PsychoSocial Dynamics of Blind, Visual Impairment, Perception and Portrayal of Women with Disabilities: Remapping their Identity (edited book), Psychosocial Transition in Visually Impaired Adolescents, Springer Publications, Singapore and The Social Model of Disability in India: Politics of Identity and Power, Routledge.
   

Mrs. Archita Roy Biswas

Qualifications: M.A., B.Ed.

Mrs. Archita Roy Biswas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education and also teaches in the B.Ed department. She has teaching experience of over 13 years. Before joining Loreto College she worked as a part time lecturer at Calcutta Girls’ B T College, Viharilal College, and was also a guest faculty in Modern Academy of Continuing Education (MACE)in Modern High School for Girls. She is an alumnus of Loreto College. Her areas of specialization are Non Formal Education and Teacher Education. She has contributed chapters in edited books and takes a keen interest in training future teachers.

Dr. Rupa Ghosh

Qualifications: M.Sc., B.Ed., M.Ed. NET, Ph.D.

Rupa Ghosh is working in the post of Assistant Professor in the department of Economics at Loreto College Kolkata. She is also a Teacher Educator in the B. ED. wing of the College. She studied at Dinabandhu Andrews College Calcutta, Shri Shikshayatan College (B. ED) Calcutta, and the University of Calcutta. She has been awarded her Ph.D. degree in the year 2020. She has previously served various other undergraduate and B.ED.Colleges in Kolkata as Guest Faculty and College whole time post. She has immense interest in Social Work as well. Her research interests and publications are in the areas of teacher education, academic involvement, and aspirations, social work, entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment.

Dr Sanghita Sanyal

Qualifications: M.A., B.Ed., M.Phil., PhD.

Sanghita Sanyal has graduated in English Literature, from Presidency College, thereafter completing her Masters and M.Phil from University of Calcutta. She also acquired her B.Ed. degree from Loreto College. She acquired her Ph.D. from the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (Kolkata) on
Reading the Songs of Rabindranath Tagore: Gender, Text and Performance.

Her academic areas of interest include Gender Studies, Tagore Studies, Translations, Culture Studies, Linguistics and ELT.

Sanghita has several articles in various journals and books. Her publications are on Victorian Women sonneteers, Narrative in Coleridge’s "Christabel", Psycho-biographical elements in Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, Gendered narratives in Rabindranath Tagore’s Short Stories, Reading the Songs of Solidarity of Rabindranath Tagore et. all. She has a monograph, "A Mind Beyond Fear: A Comparative Study of the Women in the Short Stories of Rabindranath Tagore and Virginia Woolf" and also a collection of translated stories: "Soulful Tales: A collection of Six Short Stories of Rabindranath Tagore", co-authored with Kuntala Sengupta. Sanghita writes both in English and Bengali.



Mrs. Sukanya Mullick

Qualifications: B.A.( Edu Hons),M.A. in Education, M.Phil ( Education), B.Ed, UGC- NET in Education. Pursuing Ph.D from University of Calcutta

Smt. Sukanya Mullick is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of B.Ed and Education, Loreto College, Kolkata, West Bengal. She has been a convent educated student right from her school days. She did her Graduation, Post-graduation and M.Phil. in Education from University of Calcutta. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in the same discipline on Information and Communication Technology under University of Calcutta. She has published article in National and International Seminars and Conferences and also attended different workshops. Her articles have been published in National and International Peer-Reviewed journals. Her several articles have also been published in Edited books. She has been an examiner and scrutineer in Education in the B.Ed Course and under graduate course in the same discipline since 2009 and till date. She has also been appointed as paper setter of Calcutta University from time to time. She has been keen towards social worker with the objective of improving the society for the betterment of the country.
