Journalism & Mass Communication Department

Journalism and Mass Communication as an exciting field of study incorporates areas like print journalism, television journalism, advertising, public relations, media management and communication theories. Introduced from the academic year 2004-05, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in Loreto College follows a course structure which is a combination of theory and practical assignments. The aim of the department is to educate and train students so that they can be proficient in various fields of mass communication. The course is industry-friendly to give the right exposure in the practical field. The Department promotes critical thinking about media studies and encourages group discussions, debates, workshops and seminars. The introduction of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) by the University of Calcutta from 2018 has been beneficial for the Department in exploring options which are in tune with the changing times. The Department publishes a biannual newsletter called ’The Confluence’. Guest lectures and talks are held by eminent media personalities and media academicians from leading organisations and communication departments of Central and State Universities. The students participate in many media-related events and bring laurels to the Department. Some of the students who have passed out are working with reputed media organisations, public relations departments and publishing houses.
