Installation of Climate Clock
The W.E. Nature Society of Loreto College, Kolkata installed the climate clock in the college campus on April 22, 2024 on the occasion of Earth Day. The climate clock project uses a simple tool: a clock depicting the “deadline”—the critical time window for reaching zero emissions, and the “lifelines”—tracking progress on key solution pathways. Using the carbon budget and the time available for humanity before it reaches 1.5°C of global warming, the climate clock concept aims to make citizens aware of the urgent need for climate-corrective action. The time left to limit global warming as on May 13, 2024 at 13:15 P.M. IST is 5 years, 69 days, 23 hours, 28 minutes, and 35 seconds.
A ticking clock in sight brings a sense of dynamism and encourages action. It is a powerful tool for raising public awareness and engaging people in the fight against climate change. By making the issue more tangible and visible, it helps to increase understanding and drive action. Loreto College and the W.E. Nature Society are especially devoted towards creating a sense of environmental consciousness in young minds to ensure a greener future.
