Seminar on Teach For India Fellowship
Teach For India, an organisation committed to enhancing education and combating educational disparities in the country, organized a seminar at Loreto College, Kolkata on September 27, 2023. The seminar was facilitated by Ms. Swetha Balakrishnan (Director of Fellowship Recruitment) and Ms. Riiei Maia Khongwir (Recruitment Manager) of Teach For India. The event was centred around a three-fold agenda which aimed at exploring the significance of education, the hurdles encountered within India’s educational system, and the vision of ensuring that every child receives a top-tier education irrespective of their background.
The seminar commenced with Ms. Balakrishnan delving into the altruistic facet of education and its pivotal role in effecting social advancement. She spoke of the formidable challenge of educating India’s vast population of 400 million children. She raised critical questions concerning infrastructure, human resources, funding, sanitation, and other societal factors that impede equitable access to quality education.
Attendees gained insight into the Teach For India Fellowship, an opportunity for motivated individuals willing to participate in a rigorous two-year full-time programme to teach children from marginalized backgrounds. The three-stage selection process for the fellowship was detailed. Teach For India’s affiliation with “Teach for All,” a 30-year-old global network committed to educational transformation, was also highlighted.
The seminar provided a platform for attendees to ponder the significance of education, the obstacles hindering India’s educational system, and the role of Teach For India in addressing these challenges. The attendees were inspired to consider teaching as a means of driving positive change and ensuring equity in education.
