Teachers' Day Celebration: Department of B.Ed.
On September 15, 2023, the second-year students of the Department of B.Ed., Loreto College organized a programme to celebrate Teachers' Day. Principal Sister Dr. Christine Coutinho, Sister Antoinette, Dr. Kaustuva Banerjee (Head of the Department), the professors of the B.Ed. Department, and the staff members of Loreto College were invited to the programme.
The professors and other members of the staff were greeted with chandan tilak by the students. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and a prayer song. This was followed by a dance recital with live Rabindra Sangeet performed by the students. After the performance, one of the students shared the experience of Pramathanath Bishi—prolific writer, educationist, and parliamentarian of West Bengal.
One of the highlights of the programme was an audio-visual presentation commemorating the contributions of famous educators such as Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Jane Elliott, Savitribai Phule, Mahadevi Verma, and Begum Rokeya. Characters from literature and film who epitomize the role of the influential teacher were also featured in the presentation. These included Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter Series), Mark Thackeray (To Sir, With Love), Miss Honey (Matilda), Katherine Watson (Mona Lisa Smile), and John Keating (Dead Poets Society).
The programme ended with the entire class singing a special song to convey their heartfelt gratitude and respect to their teachers. The professors and staff members were also given handmade cards and saplings as tokens of the students’ love and appreciation.
