One Billion Rising

The NSS Society of Loreto College actively participated in the One Billion Rising Movement organized by the Kolkata Mary Ward Centre in Loreto Convent School, Entally on February 14, 2023.
The programme’s focal point was the LGBTQ+ community. It started with a flash-mob performance by the junior section of Loreto Convent School, Entally. This was followed by the address of the chief guest Ms. Melinda Pavek, the American Consul General and the speeches of the guests of honour, Archbishop Thomas D’Souza and Smt. Sudeshna Roy, Indian film director, actor and writer based in Tollywood. The speakers highlighted important facts about the LGBTQ+ community, their present status, and their problems regarding adjustment and acceptance in society.
A dance performance was also put forward by the Loreto students followed by a drama-cum-dance performance by the students of Sukanta Nagar Government High School. Aahiri Naskar, a transgender classical vocalist, also pleased the audience with her extraordinary Hindi song. In addition, there were performances by Kamran Khurshid, Faizan Khurshid, Shayne Hyrapiet, and Christopher Lobo.
