Panel Discussion - Mahatma Gandhi and His Ideas on Education: Reflection on National Education Policy 2020
On November 12, 2022, Saturday, the Department of B.Ed. Loreto College organized a panel discussion commemorating the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Mahatma Gandhi and His Ideas on Education: Reflection on National Education Policy 2020.The event started with the lighting of the lamp and a prayer song to inaugurate the programme.. Four teacher trainees from the First Year of the Department were the panelists and each spoke for twelve minutes on their respective topics. The first panelist was Sanmohini Routh. She referred to the Vardha Scheme which falls under Gandhi’s Nai Talim. The second panelist, Suman K Rawat, related Gandhian ideas with the cultural and linguistic aspect of the NEP 2020.The next panelist was Rachana Jash, who discussed Gandhi’s concept of Inclusive Education, aiming at the progress of minority communities and backward sections of society. The final panelist of the day, Sohini Bhattacharya, threw light on Gandhian ideas on Education and Finance, focusing on the concepts of consumption, materialism and utilitarianism. The discussion ended with professors Dr. Debika Guha and Dr. Neeta Dang enlightening the students about Barefoot community colleges which was based on Gandhi’s idea to upgrade schools and colleges in rural areas to make them more inclusive and productive.
