International Trade Times: The Economics of Trade Policy in Practice
The Department of Economics organized a Web Talk titled International Trade Times: The Economics of Trade Policy in Practice on June 26, 2021. The speaker for the Web Talk was Ms. Koyesha Mukherjee, a past pupil of the department who is currently the Senior Trade Policy Advisor at the Department for International Trade, Government of United Kingdom. The session began with an introduction by Dr. Suranjana Mitra. The objective of the Web Talk was to enable students to understand the characteristics of modern trade, benefits and risk of trade, gain knowledge about various trade agreements and implications. The students were able to develop practical knowledge about trade negotiations and gather information about WTO Rules and political economy of trade policy. The lecture was very well organized with effective presentation through slides and videos. The lucid explanation and excellent presentation and delivery motivated students to lend their ears patiently. There was an interactive session arranged by the speaker in the form of a quiz in the middle of the session which added a new dimension to the Web Talk. The session was highly enriching, informative, insightful and engaging. The students and the faculty members actively participated during the question answer session. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Rupa Ghosh.
