Research Cell presentation on Psychological Aspects of Lockdown
A Study done during the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19 by Shruti Chakravarty and Poulomi Ghorai (Semester 5, Department of Psychology)
The presentation took place on 2 February 2021, 3 pm onwards. The students presented a paper whose aim was to measure and assess the psychological aspects of living under lockdown imposed nationwide due to the outbreak of Sars-Cov-2 or Covid-19. The study was conducted as soon as the lockdown was announced. In this descriptive study, the levels of depression, anxiety and loneliness were measured in the participants, i.e., adults above 18 years of age residing in India during the imposition of the lockdown, using an online survey. Anxiety, loneliness as well as depressive symptoms were reported most commonly by female respondents and those between the age of 18 to 25. Use of social media was seen to raise the amount of depression and loneliness, while being married and living with a greater number of people during the lockdown period substantially reduced its negative psychological effects. Working from home also showed an increase in the scores on all three variables, especially in women. The paper has now been published in the International Journal of Indian Psychology (December 2020 issue).
The presentation was highly appreciated by one and all.
