Lecture Session on Child Rights & Media



On June 23, 2023, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication and the Department of Human Rights, Loreto College in collaboration with the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights organised a lecture session on ‘Child Rights and Media’.

Smt. Ananya Chakraborti, Advisor, WBCPCR introduced different aspects of child rights to the students. She discussed Child in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) as defined by the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. She also enlightened the students about the evolution of child rights over the years globally as well as in India. Dr. Shubhrajyoti Mukherjee, Mental Health Consultant, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on child rights and gender issues from a psychological perspective. He explained the importance of child rights and the power that each child should possess. Smt. Mahuya Santra, Consulting Editor, WBCPCR, spoke on the need for awareness about child rights in every media organization. She urged the students to understand the nuances of ethical reporting that honour child rights. It was a learning experience for the students.
