Students' Week 2023



PARENTS' ORIENTATION

Parents of the First Year students were invited for an Orientation conducted by educationist and counsellor, Mrs. Marie Gasper. The sessions began with the Principal’s address which outlined the basic set up and functioning of the College. Mrs. Gasper helped parents understand the importance of their involvement in their daughters’ lives. Traits of punctuality, respect for elders and peers, professional conduct at College and commitment to academics and openness in communication were some of the themes emphasized upon in the course of the session.

VISIT TO EDUCATION FAIR ORGANISED BY GLOBAL REACH

On January 7, 2023, students of the First Year attended an education fair organized by Global Reach. The focus of this fair was on academic opportunities in Australia. Representatives of 20 Universities, including seven of the ‘Group of Eights’ were present at this fair. Students were given a list of universities they should consider in Australia based on the streams they were pursuing and their aspirations for the future. The fair helped students understand the opportunities available to them both in the area of their discipline and in related disciplines, they also learnt of novel courses available in the global academic market.

TALK ON OPPORTUNITIES AND INITIATIVE

Ms. Sumedha Verma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science of the College spoke to the First Years on January 9, 2023. The talk was designed to inform students of the opportunities available to them in College. Given the fast changing needs of the academic and professional world, students have to be prepared to think out of the box and seize every opportunity that comes their way be it terms of exposure or practical work experience. Students were also informed about the Loreto College Incubation Centre, which encourages student start-ups and provides them with seed money.

TALENT SHOW

Students of the First Year were given an opportunity to showcase their talent across various categories, as the College observed Students’ Week. On January 10, 2023 students participated in competitions for Eastern and Western vocals and dance, extempore and mono acting. The extraordinary range of talent left the audience and judges impressed. The judges for the Eastern Vocals and Dance category were- Mrs. Chandraboli Roy, Mrs. Atreyi Basu and Mitra Bhattacharya. The Western Vocals, Dance and Extempore were judged by Sr. Antoinette Rodrigues, Mrs. Patricia Gaughan and Mrs. Christina Bralia. The results of the events were as follows
