Teach for India

The second-year students of Loreto College participated in a session led by Teach for India’s Ms. Pragya Bose, Ms. Riddhi Parth Gathani, and Ms. Upasana Ghosh on November 9, 2022. Ms. Pragya Bose and her colleagues discussed their experience as Teach for India Fellows and how they helped in improving the lives of the students they taught. They also discussed how this experience enhanced their own lives in unimaginable ways. The students were enlightened on the education crisis in India through a presentation - 16 million of the world’s poorest children reside in India; 55% of ten-year-olds are unable to read simple text; and 75% will not attend college. The pandemic has made this challenge in schooling worse. In this context the students were made aware of the urgent need to create a movement of leaders who would end educational inequality in our country by working with Teach for India as volunteers and campaign leaders. Those interested were requested to contact the representatives of Teach for India. The response from the audience was indeed encouraging.
