Immunoboosters in Siddha Medicine - A Webtalk on Natural Way To Promote Immunity



The National Service Scheme Society of Loreto College, Kolkata in collaboration with IQAC organized a web talk on Immunoboosters in Siddha Medicine to create awareness on natural ways to promote immunity on December 15, 2021. The platform was Google Meet. The resource person for the web talk was Dr N.Abdul Azees, MD (Siddha), Siddha and Varmam Specialist, Maria Siddha College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Dr Azees illuminated the audience with information on the Siddha medicine - a traditional system of healing that originated in South India and is considered to be one of India’s oldest systems of medicine. The first half of the talk provided insights about various aspects of a human body such as antibodies, antigens, immunity system, functions of the immunity system, immunity boosters, different types of immunity (Innate immunity, Passive immunity and Acquired immunity), organs responsible for developing a healthy immune system of an individual and ways to improve our immune system through a healthy diet, exercising, adequate sleep, etc. In the second half of the talk, the resource person shared his knowledge about kitchen ingredients like Cumin seeds, Turmeric, dry Ginger, Fenugreek, Cardamom, Black Pepper and Garlic, their medicinal properties and how to use these simple ingredients to cure diseases. Dr Azees also explained to the students the importance of micronutrients such as Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin C and D, their recommended dosage and how these can be obtained easily. The web talk concluded with the Indian Philosophy of medicine, its history and background.

Nearly 150 students attended the webinar belonging to the NSS society from all three years and different departments of the college. The program helped the students with knowledge about how to stay fit and healthy during this pandemic by using items that are easily available and can be prepared at home in no time.
