Diaphonia

The Debating Society of Loreto College organised an Inter-Departmental debate- Diaphonia- on 30th January 2021 on the motion- 'This house believes that in today's society, 'do good and do it well' is a utopian idea.' The motion was based on an important maxim of Mary Ward, in honour of Mary Ward Day.

The debate was judged by Ms. Ujjaini Ganguly and Mr.Sayan Ganguly, eminent advocates at Calcutta High Court and debate enthusiasts. Students from each department competed in teams of three wherein, one speaker spoke for and the other against the motion, while the third member was the interjector responsible for the rebuttal and questioning rounds. The students came up with interesting and unique arguments on the motion and the debate was invigorating.

The awards were as follows:

Best Department- English Honours
Runner up- Political Science
Best Speaker (for) - Neha Sen(English) & Sadaf Afreen Mondal (Pol Sc)
Best Speaker (against) - Tanushka Dutta(English) & Simran Manna(Pol Sc)
Best Interjector- Banan K Irfan( History)
