Online Debate Competition organized by NSS

The National Service Scheme Society (NSS) of Loreto College organized an online debate competition for its students on the 22nd of September, 2020. The topic of the debate was “Action against climate will take a backseat post-COVID-19 lockdown”. The topic was highly relevant given the present scenario. There were ten participants in all with five of them speaking for the motion and five of them speaking against the motion. The event was judged by Dr Purba Roy Choudhury, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, and Ms Sutapa Sen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Shri Shikshayatan College. The moderator of the event was Ms Dipanjana Roy, Credit Portfolio Senior Analyst, Citi Retail Services, Global Consumer Banking, Citibank N.A.
The participants were second- and third-year students of Loreto College. Each one of them had prepared excellent arguments. They presented their argument well with admirable confidence and had successfully captivated the audience’s attention throughout. The position of the best speakers was taken by Shruti Chakravarty (speaking for the motion) and Soumili Basu (speaking against the motion). The winners were given e-certificates.
The event prodded students’ imaginations and awakened their concerns against the increasing climate change happening. It was a thoroughly enriching session.
